The Norwegian environment is
rich, exotic and generous. At the same time our arctic environment
can be tough and demanding. With the right preparation, a little bit
of knowledge and basic skills the Norwegian rivers and lakes,
forests and mountains can give you the most fantastic memories and
experiences.
This
course will give you the basic skills needed for arctic outdoor life
and make you able to start exploring the Scandinavian environment,
alone or together with friends, in a safe, comfortable and
sustainable way. The Norwegian mountain code says "be equipped for
bad weather and frost. Always take a rucksack and proper mountain
gear". But, what is proper mountain gear? What do you really need
and what is nice to have? The Norwegian mountain code also says "use
map and compass". But how do you do that?
We wish to give you, who have a dream about beautiful outdoor, an
introduction to practical Norwegian outdoor life.
Most of the time will be spent outdoors in beautiful surroundings
doing hands on training. The course is suitable for adventurous
people of all ages. The aim is to give you knowledge and skills for
safe, comfortable and sustainable outdoor life in Norway in the
summer.
We will guide you through
subjects like planning, navigating by map and compass, camping,
canoeing, food from the nature, safety, friendship and more.
The course does not require
any previous outdoor experience but it will be an advantage if you
have a little experience from other kinds of outdoor life. We do
however require that you are able to carry a backpack (15-20kg) up
to 7 km pr day in varying terrain. A list of necessary equipment
will be issued on request or upon booking.
