The arctic winter is exotic and,
for the untrained, tough and demanding. That is also why it can give
you very special and unique experiences. With the right
preparations, knowledge and skills the Norwegian winter mountains
have fantastic memories on offer, memories that will stay with you
for the rest of your life.
This course will give you the
basic knowledge and skills for winter outdoor life in the winter, so
that you can go on alone or with friends to explore the fantastic
Scandinavian winter in a safe, comfortable and sustainable way. It
is suitable for adventures people of all ages. It is adapted to you
who have little or no experience with the winter and to you who are
uncertain about your own skills when it is snow and cold outside. We
will show you how to work with and exploit the winter to your own
advantage instead of fighting an invincible opponent.
We will guide you through subjects like
navigation by map and compass, necessary equipment, camping, skiing,
safety, friendship and more.
Most of the course is outdoors doing hands on training in the
beautiful arctic nature.
You will be sleeping in a
cabin the first two nights and the last night. The three nights in
between you will be sleeping in different kinds of tents and in
improvised shelters (snow cave or igloo)
The course does not require
any previous winter outdoor experience but it will be an advantage
if you have a little experience from other kinds of outdoor life. We
do however require that you are able to carry a backpack (15-20kg)
up to 7 km pr day in varying terrain. A list of necessary equipment
will be issued on request or upon booking.
