Detail
program
Day
1:
Program start with dinner.
The
guide will have the first briefing
regarding
the tour.
Day 2: The morning is spent provision of snowsuits, boots etc. Organizing
the teams of huskies and learning the basics of caring for
your team and driving the sleds. After an introduction in dogsledding you will have your "own" team of 4-6 dogs. On the daytrip we will drive in varied terrain, and we will
stop for a lunch break around an open fire. Close-up nature
impressions together with a guide, who likes to share his knowledge
and admiration of nature and outdoor-life with you.
Day 3 This day will
be memorable. We travel beyond the beaten tracks by snowmobile to a winter settlement for Sámi reindeer herders
who pursue their livelihood here on the winter
pasture.
We
may
spend the day together with them and join their daily life
with
their reindeers and get insight in their way of living and herding. This
adventure is a unique privilege made available for few by a Sámi
family from Karasjok.
Day
4: Is to your own disposition for interesting activities.
There is always a lot happening
on our farm,
puppies are learning to socialize.
Many interesting books can be read in the "Dogmusher library".
Smaller
tours
can be ventured upon alone if desired: Snow
shoeing,
cross-country skiing,
tour with our kicksleds
or walking.
You can book a
extra sled dog tour.
Local handicrafts and shops can be found at the local Sámi village.
The
National
Sámi
Museum, guided
tour at Norwegian Sami parliament, Sami art gallery, Sápmi theme
park
and the local knife smith are also worth visiting.
Day 5 - 7 Checking that mushers are matched with their teams of
huskies. We start out on a 3 days tour. By now you and the huskies have
usually got to know each other’s ways. After a steep climb up to the
mountain plateau we are mushing over a hilly stretch, crossing lakes,
marshes.
We spent the nights
at
our
wilderness camp.
Cosy and warm basecamp tent, hidden in the wilderness.
Alternative
we take other route and
overnight in a mountain cabin on Finnmarks plateau. (Depending on
weather conditions and time of year).
The area we are dogsledding through, is a winter pasture for reindeers. We
may meet the native reindeer herders -
the Sámi - in their daily life on their winter pastures.
A long stretch back to
Engholm Husky lodge
through a variety of beautiful landscape. If we are lucky, we may see
moose, as it usually stays in the valley during wintertime.
Dinner gathered in the
warm atmosphere is waiting for us
at
Engholm Husky Lodge. We have a cosy wood heated sauna and outdoor
hot tub ready on request for those temted! Maybe with northern
lights above.
(We take reservations about change in the order of the days)
Day 8: The program end at breakfast.
It's worth considering whether to stay
some extra days for interesting activities as
lodge guest
before
and after the tour.
