Sled Dog Mushing · Day experiences
A real day on the trail: your own dog team, far off the beaten track.

The tour goes mostly far off the beaten track, through varied terrain in the untouched countryside around the lodge. The distance is 27 to 45 km, depending on the daylight — early in the winter the days are short. The trail takes you through pine and birch forest, over frozen lakes and rivers and, if conditions allow, up above the tree line.
The tour starts from Engholm Lodge at 10 am. You will have your "own" sled and be responsible for 4–6 dogs. Participants with previous dog-sledding experience usually drive a single team. Participants without experience normally drive a tandem team — two sleds and 8–10 dogs — sharing the team with a partner or the guide. The guide and the participants decide together whether a double or a single team is best.
We stop for a break and make a campfire in the wilderness. Hot drinks are served, and we recommend bringing a sandwich or something else to toast on the fire.
A reasonable level of fitness, concentration and a sense of balance are the key attributes needed. If you have physical limitations that make it difficult to handle a dog sled, it may be possible to sit warmly wrapped on the sled as a passenger with the guide. This must be agreed in advance, as it depends on capacity.
Warm clothes are required and can be hired at the lodge.
