Join us for a guided tour and demonstration at Engholm Lodge. We love to share the wonderful enthusiasm of the Alaskan husky with your guests: come to understand the special relationship between musher and dog, see the Arctic survival gear, the sleds and the racing equipment, hear about working with the sled dogs, visit the puppy yard and linger with the friendly adult racing dogs. You do not need to be a passionate dog lover to gain respect and admiration for these hard-working dogs and their qualities.

Engholm Lodge is a different place, situated next to the Kárášjohka river, 6 km outside Karasjok. The designed log houses here are unique and have a special charm: Sven has made all the interior furnishing and decoration himself, to create a personal atmosphere in each house.

How the visit goes

On arrival we gather for 10–15 minutes of general information about Engholm Husky life, the expeditions and the long-distance races — and about the two- and four-legged members of the Engholm Husky team. Then we take a tour: the interior of some of the design cabins, the winter equipment and winter clothing, ending in the dog yard with all the friendly sled dogs and, of course, the cute puppies — the coming stars. On the way round we divide the group in two, as it is otherwise difficult to make contact with guests who always come with many questions; in the dog yard we are all together again. Afterwards it is possible to wash hands.

Good to know

In combination with the guided farm visit you can add:

  • Drinks: hot and cold drinks
  • Tasting menu: a taste of local specialities served outdoors around the campfire. Includes homemade juice from wild flowers or berries, hot drinks, and local snacks such as smoked reindeer meat, smoked fish, dried fish and/or dried lamb (subject to seasonal availability). Finishing with homemade cake and good storytelling around the open fire.
  • Lunch or dinner: you are also welcome to enjoy a meal served in the Lodge Kitchen or in the Barta (a traditional cabin with an open fire in the middle)
