The snowshoe walk is about 1–2 km one way and takes us through a beautiful birch forest. Our goal for the day is a lake where we can fish for Arctic char. We make a fire and enjoy our lunch outdoors.

How the day goes

Ice fishing is an activity that demands a great deal of local knowledge, so your guide chooses where to go, depending on the date and the weather, to give us the best possible chance of a catch. We drive by car from Karasjok, up to 30 minutes, and then take a short and leisurely snowshoe hike to the lake in question. The hike is on easy, flat terrain before we get on to the lake itself.

At the lake we drill our own fishing holes in the ice and start fishing, while your guide prepares a nice sitting place in the snow, with a campfire and all. If we catch fish, we usually prepare and eat the catch straight on the fire — a luxury lunch in the wild.
