Cabin no. 2

In the northern lands around Karasjok, small buildings once played an important role in everyday life. Barns and storage houses stood close to family homes, protecting food, tools, and supplies through the long winters. These simple structures were built with care and practicality, shaped by the rhythm of life in the north. One of these traditions lives on in the name Buvri, the Sámi word for a storehouse or pantry for food, meat and equipment.
Our cabin Buvri carries that heritage into the present. Standing right next to Raktu, its design follows the same architectural idea, where traditional log craftsmanship meets modern Nordic design. Much of the cabin is built with beautiful slate from Alta. Local, durable, and striking in its deep colour, the slate brings a strong connection to the natural materials of the region.
Inside, the atmosphere feels both open and intimate. One entire wall is made of glass, stretching from floor to ceiling and opening the cabin toward the surrounding nature. At the centre of the room glows a 360° fireplace, suspended from the ceiling like a floating ring of fire above the dark slate floor.
Situated beside Raktu within the peaceful surroundings of Engholm Lodge, Buvri is both a tribute to the storehouses that once supported life here and a modern retreat where stone, fire, and nature meet. A traditional storehouse in name, yet a spacious place to unwind and feel at home.
