Here at Engholm husky lodge we usual serve 1 vegetarian meals, 2-3 fish meals and 2-4 meat meals a week. No farmed meat at dinner, only local wild fish from the sea and rivers and lakes that we ourselves have fished or moose that we ourself have hunted or reindeer or local sheep meat that have grazed in the wild in Finnmark's area. We only serve one dish a day, no a la carte.
It is limited cooking facilities, special on tour. Specific dietary requirements, e.g. vegetarian meals, is not available on our tour programs, wilderness tours and expeditions. For vegetarians, we can refrain from mixing meat or fish with other ingredients at dinner, but then it may not be a nutritious and wholesome meal.
If you prefer vegan diet and not eat dairy products, then you have to bring supplementary food. N.B. There is only one pan available at the mountain cabins.
We know that more and more people prefer vegetarian food based on awful farmed meat production but fortunately this is not the case here. The meat and fish we serve is the best energy source and environmentally friendly of food we have. Vegetables we can buy here come from all over the world with incredibly long transport. It is not environmentally friendly.
We are self-sufficient in root vegetables and meat and we pick all the blueberries, lingonberries, cloudberries and almost all mushrooms that we serve and all the potatoes we grow ourselves. We also have vegetable garden and greenhouse that supplies us with herbs and vegetables for the meals in the summer.
